Mark Burry CVENT Mark Burry
RMIT University

Professor Mark Burry is a practising architect who has published internationally on two main themes: the life, work and theories of the architect Antoni Gaudí, and putting theory into practice with regard to ‘challenging’ architecture. He has been Senior Architect to the Sagrada Família Basilica Foundation since 1979 pioneering distant collaboration with his colleagues based on-site in Barcelona.  In 2001 he was the Founding Director of RMIT University’s state-of-the-art Spatial Information Architecture Laboratory (SIAL) in Melbourne Australia, established as a holistic transdisciplinary research environment dedicated to almost all aspects of contemporary spatial design activity. He is currently the Founding Director of the RMIT University’s Design Research Institute (DRI), established in 2008.

Mark Abrahams

With over 15 years experience with leading architectural practices in Sydney and London, Mark Abrahams has an impressive portfolio, both locally and internationally. As National BIM Manager, Mark’s vision is to align design with innovation. His broad project and technical experience assists him in successfully integrating leading edge BIM technology into projects. He is responsible for development, training and implementation to maximise dwp|suters BIM and Revit capabilities. Mark’s project experience includes large scale sports work, including world renowned stadiums and Sydney Olympic event overlay work. Through this work, he developed a passion for and in depth understanding of CAD technologies and its application. He is now developing expert skills in health projects, and is currently working on several major, complex hospital developments around Australia.




Suleiman Alhadidi
HASSELL/ RMIT University

Suleiman Alhadidi is an architect, artist, and researcher. He is currently working as a Computational Design Consultant at HASSELL, and teaching at The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology RMIT University. He founded “Mutation Studio” in 2008; a studio dedicated to architectural design experiments. Suleiman worked previously with Coop Himmelblau in Vienna, Austria, before which he worked with Laceco international. He has practiced architecture in Australia, Europe and the Middle East. His work has been awarded, exhibited and published in Italy, Portugal, France, Jordan, China, and the UK. His current research interests include architecture design strategies, digital architecture, BIM technologies, and deployable complex kit-of-parts, interactive environments, and new fabrication technologies.

Based in Melbourne, Steve leads the BIM Advisory business line across Australia and New Zealand. Several experienced clients have consulted Steve on BIM Implementation and delivery, including Transport for New South Wales, Investa, ISPT, Melbourne Airport, Xstrata and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). 

Steve is currently Chair of the buildingSMART NBI National Guidelines Working Group. This ground-breaking document is due for release in June this year and aims to provide clients, principals and property professionals of all levels with the background and information they need to develop a consistent, interoperable and collaborative approach to BIM delivery. 

Steve is a founder member and Vice Chair of Collaborate, a not-for-profit initiative aimed at anyone in the AEC industry working with BIM. The aim of Collaborate is to nurture a dynamic and inclusive, cross industry peer group that fosters and disseminates BIM best practice.




Andrew Bagnall

Andrew is a Mechanical Engineer and the Manager of GHD Newcastle's Buildings & Energy group. Leading a team of 18 professional engineers and technical staff, Andrew's daily work involves a strong focus on the reduction of energy use within the built environment through the design of integrated building engineering solutions. Andrew also holds a corporate role as a champion for Building Information Modelling (BIM) development within GHD. In 2010 Andrew was named one of Australia's 'Most Inspiring Young Engineers' by Engineers Australia, and was the recipient of the Newcastle Division award for 'Young Engineer of the Year 2010'.




David Baldacchino

David has practiced Architecture for 12+ years and draws his experience from exposure to projects big and small, renovations and new construction, mainly in the Educational and Healthcare sectors. He is currently the buildingSMART Manager for Texas & Florida, and holds a Masters of Architecture from Texas A&M (2001) and a Bachelor of Engineering & Architecture from the University of Malta (1999). He was the team leader on several Revit pilot projects and is still very passionate about mentoring his peers both in the office and across the globe through his blog “Do U Revit?” and as an author on “HOK BIM Solutions”. David assists various project teams with all aspects of BIM and inter-related technology across the disciplines of Architecture, Interiors, Landscape/Planning, Structural and MEP. In his spare time he is always desperately trying to keep up with reading and contributing to the BIM and Revit communities.

Kyle Bernhardt is a long-time member of the Revit Product Management team, having focused the majority of his professional career on how technology can better serve the AEC industry.  Kyle has developed broad industry expertise through focuses on MEP, sustainable design, emerging technologies, and now leading a product team focused on team collaboration.  Always fascinated with the ever-changing technology landscape, Kyle is always keen for discussions on how existing challenges in the AEC industry can be addressed by novel approaches.

Through his strategic and hands-on approach Nicholas has implement many targeted BIM workflows that produce better results in less time. Nicholas work processes enables and drives a cultural BIM change within his team by supporting and educating team members on how to leverage existing technology to gain measurable efficiencies across the team. Nicholas is actively engaged in pushing the bounders of what BIM can deliver by developing custom software that bridge the gap and provide new workflows between current BIM software Nicholas understanding of BIM and integrated Project delivery has lead to many invitations to speak at conferences and events both nationally and internationally. Nicholas is an active and engaged member of the global BIM community.




Dan Chasteen
Perkins+Will

Dan Chasteen is a Regional Digital Practice Manager for Perkins+Will and the former owner of Digital Construction Studio and an IT consulting service. His 20 years of professional 3D-focused experience span a range of AEC products, interoperability and hardware. Involved in piloting and implementing new software solutions and hardware technology at Perkins+Will Dan is also a technology adviser to design teams and develops strategic technology plans and budgets for larger projects. In early 2009 as part of a small team Dan piloted a non-proprietary cloud computing technology which still serves as the primary cloud solution at Perkins+Will today. An experienced instructor he provides training for AEC software occasionally writing training manuals and providing training to instructors. A six time presenter at Autodesk University Dan has also participated in Autodesk’s 3ds Max Gunslinger program. Dan holds dual degrees in Environmental Design and Building Science from Auburn University.




David Conant
David Conant Consulting

David Conant was the first architect to work for Revit Technology Corp. He helped develop the initial design of Revit and was a member of the Revit design team from 1998 to 2013. After 15 years of work on Revit, he remains committed to its potential to transform architecture and the building industry. He is now pursuing that goat as a consultant to organizations building applications that leverage Revit’s information, optimize Revit for specific markets, or extend Revit’s capabilities. Before working on Revit, David was a licensed architect and CAD manager in Cambridge, Massachusetts and an instructor at Northeastern University. David holds a Bachelor of Science from the State University of New York and a Master of Architecture from Harvard University.

After receiving his Masters in Architecture degree from the University of Texas, Kelly joined the Beck Group as an architectural intern and has been focusing on technology and implementation of BIM practices and software since. In his current role Kelly leads a team of talented BIM implementers and practitioners to revolutionize how our projects are delivered. Kelly is also deeply involved in the Building Information Modeling community at large. He speaks at BIM and Reality Capture conferences worldwide focusing on process innovation and integration.




Mark Cronin

Mark is the Design Systems Manager and Associate at Peddle Thorp, Brisbane. He leads the integration of digital design tools with a primary objective of maximising the efficiency of BIM within the company and extending this knowledge into the industry as a whole. Mark develops, implements and manages design work-flows, and is actively involved with several industry bodies contributing to the future direction of BIM in Australia. With a background in digital design tools and architectural visualisation in the UK, Mark holds a BSc (Hons) in Architectural Technology. He is responsible for providing in-house training and best practice solutions at Peddle Thorp, and is a regular speaker at industry conferences. Mark is a beta tester for several Autodesk products, an industry blog author, and is a founding committee member of BrisBIM.

Tom de Plater is currently the Design Systems Specialist at Peddle Thorp Architects. Since graduating a Masters’ of Architecture at the University of Queensland, has worked on a variety of projects in scale for AECOM and Billard Leece Partnership. With 3D and visualization being a personal hobby, Tom set up a rendering studio while in his 3rd year of study. This quickly led to the use and pursuit of BIM software, namely Revit Architecture, and from this has built a career educating people, and searching for the most efficient way to achieve results.

Stephen Elliott is a Senior Software Engineer at Autodesk, Inc. working on the Dynamo Visual Programming environment. As an intern, Stephen implemented a computational engine for Dynamo allowing for much more expressive workflows, and introduced the concept of Custom Nodes. Stephen currently specializes in programming language design and implementation, and in functional programming and its application to graph-based visual programs.

Steve is an innovative and highly motivated successful implementer of BIM (Building Information Modelling). Steve’s focus is primarily tailored to large health, aviation, public realm and high rise commercial towers. Steve enjoys the challenges and the multi skilled working environment this collaborative process to the design, building, engineering and construction industry brings. Steve’s expertise extends from training and customizing of BIM authoring software, to implementation and compiling BIM datasets through to construction review and onsite modifications of the BIM, as well as As-Built BIM, and final delivery to the client of a usable dataset for Facilities and Asset Management. At HASSELL, Steve’s role has been dedicated to globally assisting staff to transition to BIM. Specifically providing implementation for all the suites of Revit, Archicad & Navisworks as the company’s transition from 2D CAD into Building Information Modelling, 4D Construction simulation, 5D and 6D Facilities Management. He has been Project BIM Manager on several of HASSELLS signature projects, with the most recent being $1.2b Darling Harbour Live Redevelopment.

I’m a structural engineer with more than 25 years of experience, the last 13 specialising in 3D and BIM delivery. As an early adopter of Revit and a past Secretary of the Revit User Group Sydney (RUGSyd), I have sat on steering committees for the Australian Institute of Architects (AIA), Consult Australia (CA), the Air Conditioning and Mechanical Contractors' Association (AMCA) and Australian Steel Institute (ASI), and I contributed to the August 2012 National BIM Initiative for the Australian Federal Government.

With over a decade of experience in Architectural Technologies including professional work, consultancy and Full-Time Academia, Jeremy has been Lecturing and Teaching in the field for 7 years, and s currently an Adjunct Lecturer at the Faculty of the Built Environment, UNSW.

Ceilidh is an interior designer and architect who has been leading teams using Revit for over 5 years for all interior design projects across workplace, healthcare and lab projects of various scales. Ceilidh herself has been using Revit for over 7 years. She is a passionate believer that BIM can allow us to deliver project design and documentation more efficiently and more effectively than traditional methods and to assist with the design process. She works at Daryl Jackson Robin Dyke as a Senior Interior Designer where she sits in the interior design and technology corner!




Dominik Holzer

As one of the leading BIM experts in Australia, Dr. Dominik Holzer established his consultancy ‘AEC Connect’ after working as Design Technology Director at BVN Architecture for almost three years. Dominik holds a position as Senior Lecturer in Digital Architecture at the University of Melbourne and he is the previous chair of the BIM and IPD Steering Group of the Australian Institute of Architecture and Consult Australia. Dominik's interests lie in Information Management across design, construction and operation, BIM, building performance optimisation, design collaboration, and the legal aspect of sharing project information across disciplines. Dominik frequently publishes on Design Technology related matters, he is the current BIM columnist in Australia’s FM magazine, and he is a regular speaker/host at high level industry functions on the topic of BIM and Design Technology overall.




Chris Houghton

Chris is the owner / director of Building Data Consultants and is currently the BIM Manager at Peddle Thorp Architects – Melbourne.  In his more then 25 years of industry experience he’s seen first hand the transformation of the industry from drawing board to BIM and has worked on commercial, defence, education, infrastructure, medical and residential projects in offices of all sizes.

Increasingly frustrated with the industry, particularly CAD inefficiencies, Chris undertook further studies in the late 90’s, graduating in 2002 with a Master of Information Systems Management from Swinburne University of Technology.  The application of sound business and data management philosophies to various aspects of the industry lead Chris to identify BIM as a key industry challenge in 2007.  Since then he’s honed his BIM business vision through roles managing change and delivering the new structures, processes, procedures and user support that BIM requires.

Chris has co-authored the “Surveying for BIM” paper as part of the Australian Institute of Architects and Consult Australia “BIM in Practice” series of practice notes, is a member of and occasional presenter at the Revic Group (Victorian Revit User Group), and has presented at RTC as an industry panel member.

I joined Assemble in 2012 after 6 years working as an Architect in high profile practices in New Zealand, Australia & the UK on award winning projects. For over 4 years this was as part of teams delivering projects using BIM for coordination, visualization, analysis, scheduling and costing. Much of this work has been with highly complicated building components, on site and within design and build contracts.

A qualified Architectural Technician with over 20 years of professional experience inthe architectural industry, Peter is responsible for the management of the BIM and CAD environment at Architectus Auckland. Peter’s role is to streamline and manage the BIM / CAD environment so better success can be achieved delivering projects. He is responsible for driving efficiency and understanding how to structure and customize the technology to meet the needs of project teams, whilst establishing and monitoring protocols for working with external consultants and collaboration processes and standards. He also develops and co-ordinates in-house training programs to ensure all users are operating efficiently. Peter has also worked as CAD Manager for the GCUH project and also worked in several Architectural practices in NZ, Australia and the UK as CAD Manager and an Architectural Technician, managing construction projects from inception to completion.

CRAIG KENNEDY BIM Integration Manager BSA Limited Technical Design and Construction Projects Division Craig has had over 33 year’s continuous service in the Mechanical Services Industry in Drafting roles. Since 1997 for 15 years have been spent as Drafting Manager with Allstaff Airconditioning (NSW). In July 2012, Craig progressed to the role of BIM Integration Manager for the Technical Design and Construction Projects Division of BSA Limited, covering both the Triple ‘M’ , Burke Air and Allstaff Groups of Companies nationwide. With his personal focus on continued education, Craig brings to the table the most current skills in the market today. Craig has a passion for innovation and is a strong advocate for the adoption of BIM and alternative project delivery methods.




Hisham Khoury

WSP Melbourne BIM Manager and a project Electrical Engineer, he has spent the majority of the past five years heavily involved in the regional BIM evolution. His work has, over that time, seen him involved in several large scale BIM projects with varying levels of complexity such as Crown Casino, Echuca Hospital and Medibank Tower. His role in these projects involved managing BIM strategy, Electrical Design, Model management and client relations.
As part of the WSP Technical User Committee he has been instrumental in setting up many of the standards and tools which are being used regionally throughout WSP Asia Pacific. WSP are constantly striving as a firm to push the boundaries within Engineering and having an electrical background allows Hisham to be at the forefront of Electrical Engineering within BIM.




Josh Lowe

Josh Lowe is a Senior Innovation Advisor at TURIS Systems LLC. His role is to lead his team to explore the boundaries of technology. Josh believes that Lean construction happens through the power of Building Information Models. Josh is involved in the research and development of data management applications for facility management. In 2013, his innovation and leadership inspired Engineering News Record-Midwest Region to name him to the list of “Top 20 under 40” in the construction industry. He is a contributing author to two books on BIM and he is an experienced speaker having spoken across North America.




Aaron Maller

Aaron is currently the BIM Manager at The Beck Group, specializing in Revit Implementation. His current role includes streamlining use of the program, exploiting its efficiencies amongst the Architectural Design, Preconstruction/ Estimating, and Construction groups at Beck, as well as Revit Infrastructure Management and Training for all users. His work experience includes Implementing and Support Revit in a variety of offices, and using Revit for all phases of Architecture (from Design to Construction including fabrication), on projects of varying scopes and genres. Passionate about Revit and Architecture, he's an avid contributor on AUGI (twiceroadsfool) RevitForum.org (twiceroadsfool),Twitter (@twiceroadsfool) and is an active speaker in the Revit Community, presenting at Autodesk University, the Revit Technology Conference, and several Local Users Groups and Autodesk training events.

Toby is a highly motivated, successful implementer of BIM (Building Information Modelling) and the change management that this technology enables. He is well versed in analysing and developing creative solutions for organisational change, assessing differing requirements and providing “win - win” scenarios to all levels of project delivery and business. Toby has extensive expertise in overcoming challenges in introducing BIM technology across an organisation. Over the past eight years he has worked with over 30 companies in the Asia/Pacific region providing these services. Most notably as BIM Manager for HASSELL and Woolworths Limited where he created the standards, methodology, workflows, and content to streamline the supply chain processes, reducing errors.




Phil McKenzie

Phil has been a Senior Architectural Technician and Visual artist at Opus Architecture for the past 6 years providing tutoring and mentoring for over 70 Architectural Revit staff since learning Revit in 2007. Phil has a passion for gaming and real-time rendering and has been a game reviewer for over the past 10 years, which his three boys just love. This has led to his goal of mixing business with pleasure in the way he brings the gaming industry into his Architectural visualizations.




Chris Mckeown

After Graduating from Victoria University of Wellington with a Bachelor of Architecture in 2001, Chris initially started working for a successful residential New Zealand architectural firm. It was while working there that Chris started using AutoCAD Architecture 3.3, and extended his talent for computer programming by completing a Bachelor of Information Technology in 2003. Throughout his career, Chris has continued to develop his 3D modelling skills, using AutoCAD Architecture 2011 as the BIM Manager in a large London Healthcare Practice. Chris started implementing Revit into the Practice prior to moving to Australia, in early 2011. Chris has been the BIM Manager at Melbourne-based commercial design practice METIER3 since mid 2011. Throughout his time as both a CAD Technician and BIM Manager, Chris has always searched for the most effective and efficient procedures to complete any given task. His current knowledge of architectural practice ensures that he is well aware of the existing gaps in workflows to produce quality documentation.

Lee Miller

Lee Miller is a Vice President and the Director of buildingSMART Implementation for HOK. He has nearly 18 years of experience in the AEC industry and has worked on a wide variety of projects, including commercial, health care, interiors, aviation, justice, and urban design. Lee works very closely with the BIM Managers and project teams to implement HOK’s standards and process to projects. He also provides support for BIM Managers and BIM Coordinators, assisting in the organization of the project data, developing custom procedures, and customizing the software to make the most efficient use of their technology for project work. He is also responsible for producing firmwide standards and guidelines that conform to HOK’s culture as well as emerging best practices.




Jon Mirtschin

Jon Mirtschin, born 1977, received his Bachelor of Engineering/Science from the University of Melbourne, Australia. He worked for Connell Wagner and Expedition Engineering before starting Geometry Gym Pty Ltd, specializing in BIM software tools especially model exchange.




Daniel Morrison
BPi

After graduating from the University of Queensland in 1994 as a Mechanical Engineer and working in Brisbane for 2 years, Daniel travelled to England where he spent over 3 years on a working holiday visa, doing CAD Design. In 2000, approximately 6 months after returning to Australia, he commenced employment with AECOM and in 2003 he was transferred to AECOM’s Perth office to boost building design in the WA drafting team. Daniel has been in Perth ever since, where he supported growth of the Building Engineering team from 5 to almost 100 people, and the drafting team from just himself to 15 people. Daniel started using Revit in 2007, and he is now the chairperson of the West Australian Revit Users Group. He has also played a leading role nationally in the implementation of Revit and BIM throughout AECOM in Australia and New Zealand. Late in 2013 Daniel decided a change was needed and has now joined BPi (BGC – Posco E&C international) as a VDC Engineer, responsible for setting, reviewing and enforcing the BIM standards for projects from beginning of design through construction to handover to the client.




Christopher James Mouflard

Christopher J. Mouflard is a Sales Engineer for Trimble Navigation, Ltd. managing the Australasia region. In his former role as an On-site Project Manager in Trimble’s VDC Department, he was responsible for successful customer projects around the world. Christopher specializes in Location-Based Management Systems (LBMS), Trimble’s true 4D approach to construction management which leverages 5D quantities, productivity data and locations of work to calculate construction schedules. In addition, Christopher has developed databases for 5D model based cost planning and has extensive field experience implementing the Last Planner® system. From 2010 to 2013, Christopher was consulting to a top ten US general contractor implementing Vico Office. His role extends to culture change management where he has delivered many workshops and executive seminars. Christopher has lectured on BIM in Construction Management and LBMS at the University of California, Berkeley and University of Technology, Sydney. He has co-authored several academic papers on LBMS.

Florian Neumayr

Florian Neumayr post graduated in Business and Engineering with majors in PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) and Controlling in Germany. He offers 15 years of industry experience in the architectural and structural business for multi-storey buildings and warehouses. Having lived in New Zealand for the last 8 years, he joins a big passion for BIM leading him to teach and speak internationally. He focuses himself as application engineer to optimize the computer as tool for the last 3 years working as consultant for a major Autodesk Reseller in the Asia Pacific teaching Revit and 3DS Max. Over the following 6 years Shane worked in local government in the roles of traffic engineer and senior roads engineer.  Interested in combining engineering design and computing, Shane then joined Civil Survey Solutions (known as CADApps Australia at the time), to technically promote Autodesk software in the civil industry, and train and support customers.

Prior to joining HYLC Chris was the Group BIM-IPD Director for URS Scott Wilson and involved driving the UK BIM adoption. Since starting on the project in 2011 Chris has implmented BIM across the entire design team and integrated the supply chain into the design process to improve co-ordination and collaboration.

Ms Laura Smagin graduated from Wellington Polytechnical Institute in 1988. The following year, she migrated to Australia where she gained experience in various project types from single residential to large-scale commercial, defense, corporate, industrial, transport, retail, health and institutional. In 2005, when she was with Woodhead International, Laura undertook a self-driven transition into BIM. She travelled throughout Australia, India and Singapore as a trainer to lead the company through its BIM journey. In 2011, Laura moved to Singapore to establish BIM practices in the region. Matt has been working as a Head Contractor for over 10 years including over 5 years with Baulderstone SA, as Senior Design Manager with representation on their national BIM focus group. Matt has a keen interest in the practical application of BIM in the construction environment and lead the use of BIM for the recently completed Adelaide Oval Project as Senior Design Manager for the project.
Matt has been a BIM champion in the Construction industry for some time working with consultants, contractors and the RAIA, participating in industry related BIM presentations and panels. He has led the steering of a number of large BIM projects.
